THE ROUTE OF THE AMAZONE RIVER (fully)

12 days - 11 nights

Grand tour of the Brazilian Amazon region, sailing along the Amazon River and its affluents, accompanied by an English Guide: Manuas, considered in the early 1900s, the Latin American Paris, the Cascades region, the paradisiacal Alter do Chão, Belem river beach the gateway to the Amazon, Marajó, the largest river island in the world, the native peoples and their daily lives, the immense forest and its fauna.

DAY 1: Manaus

Arrival in Manaus (in the early 1900s, due to the large production of Rubber from the rubber tree, it was considered the most elegant city in South America, with great French influence Belle-Epoque) on the banks of the Rio Negro (one of the largest tributaries of the Rio Amazonas): reception at the airport and transfer to the hotel. Rest of the day free to settle in the climate and stroll independently in São Sebastião Square with the majestic Amazonas Theater , still one of the most beautiful in the world (not included to be visited internally with a local guide) and its bars / restaurants. Free evening.

DAY 2: Excursion Rio Solimoes / Rio Negro

Early morning short visit to the characteristic Fish Market (some species are fished only in this area including the gigantic Pirarucu, the largest freshwater fish in the world) and excursion by motor boat to the unreal Meeting of the Waters (the dark ones of Rio Negro join the more turbid ones of Rio Solimoes thus giving rise to the great Rio Amazonas); subsequently we will reach a native community (inhabitants of stilts) where we could get in touch with the local fauna (monkeys, sloth, crocodiles and for the more fortunate also the anaconda); continuation along an Igarapé (small water channel that is created in the rainy season and that connects river arms) to reach a restaurant / stilt house where you can have lunch (not included), before visiting an indigenous community, where we will attend a dance ceremony. Going up the Rio Negro we will reach a small lagoon where you can swim with the famous “Boto cor de Rosa” (Pink Dolphins) and then continue to the splendid beach of Tupe (time for relaxation and swimming) before returning to the port of Manaus, already surrounded by the lights of the setting sun. Free evening.

DAY 3: Excursion Presidente Figueredo

In the morning departure (with micro van shared with other tourists), along asphalted road, for Presidente Figueredo (2 hours of travel), where we will precede some paths in the forest to reach some of the many natural caves and waterfalls in the region (time for refreshing baths) . After lunch (included) return to Manaus. Free evening

DAY 4: Rio Amazonas navigation

In the morning short city tour of the commercial area and the characteristic Lisboã Market (where you can shop souvenirs and food products), before boarding a typical river boat (scheduled public), for the exciting navigation along the Rio Amazonas (full board treatment starting from dinner)

DAY 5: Rio Amazonas navigation - Alter do Chão

Continue navigation along the Rio Amazonas: full day of relaxation on the boat deck being able to appreciate the surrounding landscape; in tight arrival to the city of Santarem and transfer by car (private) to the magnificent beach of Alter do Chao (the most beautiful river beaches of Latin America) with accommodation in hotels; lunch on board (included) and free evening

DAY 6: Rio Tapajos excursion

In the morning excursion by private car (or motorboat depending on the situation of the access roads) to reach the beach of Pindobal (where you can swim and have lunch) and the Tapajos Park where we will take a walk (2 or 4 hours, of your choice of the participants) within a protected forest region, to get to know the characteristic Amazonian vegetation. Upon returning, already wrapped in the sunset lights, a dinner (optional and not included) will be served in a typical hut of a native community before returning to the hotel in Alter do Chão. Free evening
Possibility (with supplement) overnight stay in a house / palafitte facing the river in the native community: in this case the morning of the following day will be dedicated to the transfer to Alter do Chão and with the same afternoon schedule reported later

DAY 7: Alter do Chão excursion

Free morning on the beach on the heavenly Ilha do Amor and after lunch (not included) excursion (in private) by motorboat to reach the other bank of the Rio Tapajos and the Jari canal, where we could practice fishing for the fearsome Piranha; on the way back we stop at Lago Nero (where you can swim) and at the beautiful beach of Ponta das Pedras, to conclude with the Pontal do Cururu (a strip of sand that stretches over the river) where the crystal clear waters will reflect an unforgettable sunset. Free evening

DAY 8: Santarem – Belem

Free morning for an autonomous walk through the streets of the town (a visit to the Indigenous Craft Center is also recommended) and transfer to Santarem airport in good time for the flight to Belem (the entrance door of the Amazon): reception at the airport and transfer to the hotel.
Depending on the time of arrival of the flight, possible evening excursion by boat (optional and not included) to get to know the sky-line of the city (seen from the river) with the sunset lights and with a folkloric representation of the typical music of Pará.

DAY 9: City tour - Marajó / Soure

In the morning city tour (4 hours): the Basilica of Nazaré (one of the most beautiful and important Brazilian churches) the old city (with the old colonial houses and Forte do Presepio) to finish with colorful market of “Ver o Peso” (the largest and best stocked Amazon market of spices and medicinal plants), where you can have lunch in one of the Spartan “kiosks”, also having the opportunity to taste the famous “Açai” (the fruit of life); after lunch (not included) transfer to the port to board a boat (scheduled) to the island of Marajò (2.5 hours), the largest river island in the world, on the mouth of the Amazon River: arrival at the port of the island and road transfer to the village of Soure, with hotel accommodation. Free evening

DAY 10: Marajo excursion

In the morning private excursion to get to know the typical village of Pesqueiro where, with a motorized canoe, we will go through igarapé surrounded by lush vegetation to the magnificent beach of Ceu (on the ocean): free time for relaxation with walks on the shore and baths in fresh / brackish waters; after lunch (not included) visit to a Fazenda (farm) inside an immense prairie (the Pantanal of the Amazon) where we will have the pleasant experience of riding the buffalo (animal symbol of the city), go for a walk and a short navigation by canoe to observe the local fauna ( mainly Volatile, Capivara, and Caimani) before returning to the hotel, accompanied by the return to the nests of the Guará (Scarlet Ibis). Free evening

DAY 11: Marajo / Salvaterra – Belem

After breakfast visit to the ceramic artisans (with decorations of the ancient Marajoara culture, originally from the area), to those of Buffalo leather and stop at Barra Velha beach where you can relax, bathe in fresh / brackish water and have lunch (not included), before the transfer to the port where the boat will return to return to Belem (3 hours): reception of our representative and transfer to the hotel; Free evening:we recommend the walk independently along the tourist walkway Estaçao das Docas (city postcard) where we could sip the artisan Amazon Beer, watching the sun go down on the Baia do Guajará and savor a delicious dinner (not included)

DAY 12: Belem airport - end of programming

Free morning and transfer to the airport: depending on the return flight time,possible excursion (optional and not included) to the Mangal das Garça park, where we may have close contact with various species of birds, butterflies and iguanas, as well as a 360º panoramic view of the city (from the top of the lighthouse). End of program.

Valid from August to mid-December; periods on national or local holidays are absolutely exclude (to be quoted on specific request)

Sunprotection lotion, hat, rain coat, mosquitos´s repellent, plastic bags with closure, dysentery pads, flashlight, thick cotton socks, pants and long sleeve shirts, trekking shoes, closed rubber sandals, towel

  • Guide service in english language staff (24 hours) plus local guides (throughout the program)
  • transfers and excursions in private (except where specified as “public” or shared with other tourists)
  • all nights of hotel sharing a double room, breakfast included, which are listed at the end of the page (under availability)
  • overnight during navigation (in double cabin, shared with another participant, with bunk beds and private bathroom), with full board
