GUIDE IN ENGLISH

DAY 1: Travel start - Rio de Janeiro

Arrival in Rio de Janeiro: reception by our local Staff and transfer to the hotel located on the famous Copacabana Beach: after depositing your luggage at the reception desk (check-in after 15:00 p.m.), excursion with driver / private guide (4/5 hours) to know the historic center of the city, second capital of the Portuguese colony, after Salvador, later capital of the Portuguese Kingdom, which moved to Brazil, and finally of the Brazilian Empire whose European styles and cultures strongly influenced its foundation and formation: the Lapa with the Selaron staircase and the Arco Iris, the bohemian district of Santa Teresa, Praça XV and historic Confeitaria Colombo. Free afternoon to rest and after dinner excursion (optional and not included) to watch a typical music and samba show.

DAY 2: Rio de Janeiro

Free day at the beach and to get to know the famous Copacabana and Ipanema promenades: in the afternoon we also recommend a walk to reach the Arpoador promontory to enjoy an unforgettable sunset over the sea. For the evening we recommend the exclusive restaurants and the characteristic “butecos” (beer gardens) located in the neighborhood.

DAY 3: Rio de Janeiro

Private excursion (8 hours with lunch and entrance fees included) to visit the “Cidade Maravilhosa”, the first metropolis to be elected a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, for its cultural landscape (a work combined between nature and man): the Pao de Açucar and Christ the Redeemer with the amazing views of the Baia da Guanabara and the Forest of Tijuca, the largest urban rainforest area in the world, the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Sambodromo, (only outside), the temple of the world famous allegorical carnival parade. Free evening

DAY 4: Foz de Iguaçu

In the morning transfer to the airport for boarding the flight to Foz de Iguaçu: reception of our local staff and excursion (in private with driver/guide in English) of the Brazilian side of the park (entrance fees not included), to appreciate the amazing Garganta do Diabo (from below), the largest of the waterfalls with 150 meters. of extension and 80 mt. in height. At the end of the day transfer to the hotel

DAY 5: Foz de Iguaçu

In the morning excursion (in private with driver/guide in English) of the Argentine side of the park (entrance not included), to appreciate the amazing Garganta do Diabo (this time from above). We also recommend lunch (not included and organized with our guide) in one of the many restaurants in the Argentine territory. Free evening

DAY 6: Manaus

In the morning transfer to the airport (depending on the flight´s time, possible optional excursion to the large Bird Park) for boarding the flight to Manaus, the ex capital of “Cauchu” (rubber from the seringueira tree) on the banks of the Rio Negro (one of the largest tributaries of the Rio Amazonas): reception at the airport and transfer to the hotel. Rest of the day at leisure for a self-guided walk to São Sebastião Square (near the hotel) with the great Amazonas Theater (one of the 5 most important in the world).

DAY 7: Tupana Lodge

Early in the morning transfer to the port where we will board to reach the Amazon Tupana Lodge (http://www.amazontupana.com/), passing through the Meeting of the Waters of the Rio Solimoes with the Rio Negro (giving rise to the great Rio Amazonia); reception with welcome drink and start of the activity.

DAY 8: Tupana Lodge

Day dedicated to the activities and excursions of the Cigana package http://www.amazontupana.com/pacotes.php. (4 days – 3 nights): trekking in the forest leaded by an indigenous guide to appreciate its great beauty and feel its energy, knowing its resources and pitfalls. Return to the lodge for lunch and in the early afternoon, fishing trip for the “piranhas”: returning to the hotel for the dinner, with the beautiful sunset light. Possible overnight tent camp with dinner in the forest.

DAY 9: Tupana Lodge

We suggest a ride in the early hours of the morning to admire, after the colors of the sunset, those of the sunrise and experience another canoe safari, this time to the rhythm of the silent rowing of the natives. The early hours are favorable to meet the famous “botos cor de rosa“, pink freshwater dolphins. Return to the hotel for breakfast and free morning with relaxing time on the deck of the lodge, reading a book or bathing in the calm and warm waters of the river. After lunch, we visit a typical “caboclos” house (local mixed race ethnic) to get to know the daily life of a native family.

DAY 10: Salvador

After breakfast, return to Manaus and transfer to the airport for boarding the flight to Salvador de Bahia: reception by our local staff and transfer to the hotel in Itapuá, a fishingmen`s quarter which has become the main tourist destination of the city. Free evening

DAY 11: Salvador

Free day at the beach a few steps from the hotel and we also recommend a walk independently to get to know the region with the Farol de Itaopua, the Monumento de Vinicius de Moraes, the Lagoon of Abaetè and the promenade, where you can sip a beer in one of the bars/restaurants in the neighborhood (with live music on the weekends), enjoying an unforgettable sunset.

DAY 12 – North Coast Excursion

Private excursion along the north coast of the state, till to the famous village of Praia do Forte (1.30 hours of travel), with its wonderful natural pools (where you can swim in crystal clear waters) and home of the protection project of the sea turtles. Before returning to the hotel, visit the Hippie Village of Arembepe (in the 70s the destination of famous international singers), where you can appreciate the local handcrafts.

DAY 13: Salvador

City tour in Salvador (with private car and English guide) to visit the lower town, passing through all the coast way until the Barra lighthouse, arriving to the port zone Ribeira with the Bonfim church (the mystical symbol), the Montserrat Fort, the São Joaquim market (typical african market). Heading now to the upper town and arriving to the Pelourinho (the city historical heritage), we´ll gonna walk through the narrow streets enjoying the art of the most important churches (included the entrance in the São Francisco golden church). In the end of the afternoon, return to the hotel.

If this day is tuesday, possibly night visit to the streets of Pelourinho to follow the religious procession of “Terça da Bença” (Tuesday of the blessing) and a mess at the church and a great african band playing in the streets where everybody dance.

DAY 14 – End of the tour

Free morning: we recommend a autonomy walk to Piazza da Cira to taste the famous Acarajé (typical shrimp meatloaf from Bahia), before transfer to the airport for boarding on the return flight (to be paid by the participants). End of services.

VACCINATIONS NEEDED

Yellow fever and malaria (recommended but not obligatory)

EQUIPMENTS NEEDED

Sun protection lotion, hat, rain coat, mosquito´s repellent, plastic bags with closure, dysentery pads, flashlight, thick cotton socks, pants and long sleeve shirts, closed rubber sandals, personal towel.

HOTELS AND SERVICES

Are not reserved but will be booked only upon confirmation by all participants, through the payment that will be agreed: therefore the availability of the rooms in the hotel facilities defined in the program cannot be guaranteed and consequently, in the event of unavailability, they must be replaced with similar ones, but which could lead to an increase in the estimated price.

  • All excursions and transfers at Rio de Janeiro, Foz de Iguaçu and Salvador in private: in Manaus some services may be shared with other tourists
  • All overnight stays with breakfast in double rooms in the indicated structures (subject to room availability for the dates that will be established), in the Tupana Lodge full board treatment (excluding drinks)
  • Entrances to the Cristo Redentor and Pão de Açucar, in Rio de Janeiro
  • A lunch in Rio de Janeiro (during 8 hour excursion) and all meals at Tupana Lodge

  • The international flight (of Traveler´s Responsibility)
  • the domestic flights whose prices will be sent once the exact dates have been defined
  • Supplement to use the rooms in the hotel on arrival 1st day (Early check in) before the regular time (15:00 pm) and on the last day (Late check out) after the regular time (12:00 am)
  • Entrances to the Cataratas Park in Iguaçu (Brazilian and Argentine side)
  • All meals except those during an excursion to Rio de Janeiro and during the stay at the Tupana Lodge (all beverage are always excluded)
  • Optional excursions, program extensions and unscheduled personal transfers

From Salvador transfer by catamaran to the island of Tinharè where the famous village of Morro de São Paulo is located: seaside stay in a true tropical paradise; return to Salvador along the Costa del Dendé.
